Orders of Merit
An Order of Merit is both the face and the honor of the nation and has been issued and supplied by KOMSCO since 1985 to maintain the products artistic value and public confidence. After the 3~4 years of preparation to introduce orders of merit business and research on the order of merits production process and standards, we have contributed to establishing the Order of Merits Regulations by the Awards and Decorations Act.
Orders and medals are made of pure silver plated with gold or rhodium and discoloration is a decisive factor for the quality level considering the material properties, which required continuous research and development on quality improvement and process improvement. By acquiring a high level of quality through continuous improvements, we provide quality products thanks to the craftsmanship of our employees despite severe fluctuations in sales considering the characteristics that the products are used for major government events. In particular, the order of merits for making technology is the foundation for the development of new products. The 50th Anniversary of the Government Establishment Commemorative Coin is the worlds first coin to adopt one of the main medal processing skills, cloisonn technique, and it is highly expected that this medal making skill will be applied to coins and other businesses as well.
KOMSCO produces and supplies 12 orders of merits including the Grand Order of Mugunghwa to the government.
The order and medals of Korea is divided by 12 types and further in each category. The 12 types are composed of 5 classes except for the Grand Order of Mugunghwa. Medals are below orders, which also have 12 types including the National Foundation Medal. They do not have grades. Each medal is supposed to match its corresponding merit in principle, but the Grand Order of Mugunghwa does not have a corresponding medal and the Reserves Medal does not have a corresponding order.
Grand Order of Mugunghwa
The Grand Order of Mugunghwa is the highest order awarded to the President of South Korea, and it may be awarded to their spouse, heads or former heads of state of South Korean allies and their spouses.
Order of Merit for National Foundation
The Order of Merit for National Foundation is awarded for outstanding meritorious services in the interest of founding or laying a foundation for the Republic of Korea.
Order of Science and Technology Merit
The order of Science and Technology Merit is awarded to those who have rendered outstanding meritorious services in the interest of improving science and technology.
Order of Civil Merit
The Order of Civil Merit is awarded for outstanding meritorious services in the areas of politics, economy, society, education, art or science in the interest of improving citizens welfare and promoting national development.
Order of Military Merit
The Order of Military Merit is awarded to an individual who rendered outstanding military services by participating in an action in time of war or in quasi-state of war.
Order of Service Merit
The Order of Service is awarded to public officials (except for soldiers, civilian workers in the military) for outstanding meritorious services by applying himself/herself to his/her duties.
Order of National Security Merit
The Order of National Security Merit is awarded for outstanding meritorious services in the interest of national security.
Order of Diplomatic Service Merit
The Order of Diplomatic Service Merit is awarded for outstanding meritorious services in the interest of enhancing national prestige and promoting amity with allies.
Order of Saemaeul Service Merit
The Order of Saemaeul Service Merit is presented to individuals who contributed to social and national development through the New Community Movement.
Order of Industrial Service Merit
The Order of Industrial Service Merit is presented to individuals and businesses who have contributed to the national industrial development.
Order of Sports Merit
The Order of Sports Merit is awarded to those who have rendered outstanding meritorious services in the interest of improving citizens physique and national status though sports.
Order of Cultural Merit
The Order of Cultural Merit is awarded for outstanding meritorious services in the fields of culture and arts in the interest of promoting national culture and national development.
Medals have 12 types like the order of merits and recipients are those who have outstanding meritorious service or have a huge contribution to heightening national prestige according to medal type like the order of merits. Medals do not have grades and are beneath the 5th grade of Order in grade.
